This is EbenGregory.com…telling you that since the early days of Hip-Hop videos and hyper-sexualized images and media content, some black women have used prevailing stereotypes about the black female body for their own monetary gain. The problem, (besides, what compels an individual to perpetrate negative stereotypes) is the tendency to lump black women as a monolithic entity, where the actions of one person represents the entire population. While women are certainly allowed to make a living using whatever means they feel will be profitable, the concern from many about how some women choose to portray themselves in the media is becoming more complicated.
There seems to be a struggle between celebrating the emergence of young black models who celebrate their womanly sexuality and the highly sexist and derogatory images these women appear in. And beside the emergence of curvaceous video vixens, there is still pressure for black women to conform to the beauty standards that are prevalent among Hollywood celebrities.
More often than not, there is probably a large amount of black people who have experienced being negatively judged based on the actions of someone that they do not know, and while shrugging it off is the most rational reaction to being stereotyped, internalizing and recognizing that it is and will continue to be a common occurrence, leads people to blame those whose images and behavior are symbolic of what they want to avoid. While Keri and other R&B female singers might buck the prevailing trend of sexuality, there is a thin line between wanting to be seen as being a sexual, attractive being and being hypersexualized.
But you don’t hear me doe. PS, Keri could get it.
Any one that says they’ll pass on smashing keri or anything remotely close to lookin like keri and the brawd isn’t burning, is a woman or gay fish..

@ A.B.N. There is a reason Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Lil Kim (in her prime) are/were all platinum achieving honeys…..while Mya, Aliyah (R.I.P.), and Ms. Kerri are pulling up the rear…..no pun intended. It’s kinda hard to keep the juice box wet when it’s constantly exposed to the air….hahahahaha.
I’m actually shocked. lol Not much at the video, but the jump that she made music-wise. She was PG for a little while and now this. I think she might hit a wall musically because the video and the song seemed a little too force and out of character. She had a natural sexy swag to her already.

I have to co-sign. I think that before now Keri was a voice with a pretty face, and now she is trying to be vice-versa… That wall has been hit by may of these female performers who lack representation that will steer them clear of becoming the stereo type that EG expressed. I think we can all agree that Ms Keri was not going to be lined up with the Stephanie Mills, Chaka Kahn’s, Aretha Franklin’s and such. With this effort I don’t even know if I would include her in with the Tweets, Jasmin Sullivans’ or even the Mary J’s. She was fishing for that Christina Agulera buzz. I fully understand the effort, but it was lack-luster at best. She was even more appealing when she only revealed little images, and left more to the imagination. While i wildly lust for this woman and her body, i have to say, #wehavetodobetter.
I’d hit it……but the video was a little tired in my opinion.
