EbenGregory PSA: Net Neutrality Passed, The FCC Now Controls The Internet
First…know that the FCC passed Net Neutrality which means that depending on where you sit you may see the new rules as “not going far enough” or “a unnecessary power grab by the government.” And then…
EbenGregory was like…check out the video below to get a better understanding of Net Neutrality.
This is EbenGregory.com…telling you that the FCC and a few others claim that the new rules will guarantee an “open internet” and protect “innovation.” Nobody is really happy, however. The left and staunch net neutrality advocates think this deal is too favorable to corporate interests. The right sees this as another act of unjustified government intervention in “the market.” My guess, based on the fist pounding and hyperbole, is that the new Republican-controlled House of Representatives may take up legislation that seeks to strip or otherwise undermine the FCC’s ability to regulate broadband providers. In other words, these new rules don’t settle much of anything. Kanye shrug.

The beginning of the end of free speech.
You should be able to do a Google search that is no slower or faster than bing search? Wouldn’t that be the one of the reasons to use one over the other? How do you ask a company of programmers to slow down the network so that it’s not faster than our competitors? Hey Android, iPhone users can’t have “Live Wallpapers” or Flash Supported websites, can you remove that functionality? Just on the surface of what I’m listening to, I don’t agree…
The part where Kang talks about Comcast blocking bit torrent, I do agree that there must be some consequence to that company and some form of regulation that disallows that from happening, but they confuse me as to whether or not they support or oppose making bandwidth a luxury and charging per internet activity. The question to be answered is does this allow Comcast to say ‘Your internet bill will be more like your light bill, the more you use, the more you pay’ or does it regulate them by saying you pay one price for internet, no more 8/1 and 16/2 mbps pricing plans? If it’s the former, then using the internet to stream content will cost more than just going to a news site. It means the times when I play XBOX Live or PSN or I stream a movie that sucked on NetFlix, I’m going to pay extra for that instead of a one price fits all plan.
