Sources with knowledge of the Revolt playbook describe it as a music and music news channel with an urban skew. One described it as the old days of MTV, but for more of the African American audience. The venture is well funded, say the sources.

Former MTV programming chief Andy Schuon is involved with Revolt, according to sources. In 2006, Schuon headed up a music channel called International Music Feed (IMF), which was acquired by Ovation TV before being discontinued.

Comcast will provide distribution as part of its commitment to the FCC to help launch minority owned networks. In April, Comcast began soliciting proposals for “independent channels,” according to its press materials. It plans to launch 10 over the next eight years, including eight Hispanic or African American owned channels, and began accepting proposals for the first three last spring.

In the first one, developed by “Bernie Mac” creator Larry Wilmore, Martin would play a single man who becomes a foster parent to several children along with his sister. Tom Hertz, the creator of “Rules of Engagement” came up with a different plot where Martin would be a family man trying to keep his kids grounded while facing off with his wealthy in-laws.

The funny man known for characters like Sheneneh Jenkins and Jerome, signed a deal with CBS and CBS TV Studios last fall to develop a comedy project and a decision on which direction the network will go is expected in the coming weeks. Martin probably won’t have as much freedom on CBS as he did on Fox but I can’t wait to see if he’s as funny in his 40s as he was in his 20s. Maybe he can get Bruhman to make a cameo.

After her, in second place, is the Black Eyed Peas, who’ve sold 42.4 million digital tracks, and then Eminem, who’s sold 42.29 million. However, the Black Eyed Peas can lay claim to the record for the biggest-selling digital single of all time — “I Gotta Feeling,” which has sold 7.68 million copies. None of Rihanna’s songs are even in the top ten on that list.

Ludacris is expanding his business portfolio with the announcement that he will be opening a restaurant in his native Atlanta, Georgia.

The rapper revealed on Twitter that he will open Chicken & Beer in the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which is the world’s busiest airport in regards to passenger volume and flights. The airport serves 89 million people per year.
