Thankfully, Cannon’s stunt was a hoax. Although Rollin’s website said the prank went “a little too far” and pleaded to fans to “help find” Charlie Roo, Cannon released a video explaining that Lee’s puppy was perfectly fine. “I won a bet with Sarah Lee, and I’m about to play the meanest joke on her ever,” Cannon, 31, explained in a clip shot prior to the incident. “This whole time I’ve been acting like I don’t like dogs, but I really love dogs. I’m a dog person… But I’m pretending that I want to float Charlie Roo with balloons!”

“I’m not really gonna float a dog,” Mariah Carey’s hubby clarified. “I’m gonna float a stuffed animal that looks just like Charlie Roo. If you happen to find the fake Charlie Roo, attached to it, there’ll be some Katy Perry tickets.” Cannon then tied a small stuffed animal in a pink coat to approximately fifty balloons and videotaped the incident. He then went along with the joke on Twitter, telling fans: “I think I might be getting fired. Radio gone seriously wrong… People are acting like I’m [Michael] Vick. I apologize. Now get over it.”

Fortunately the real Charlie Roo was put in “a nice, safe place,” while the lookalike stuffed animal was flown away. Even before Cannon released a video confirming the incident was a joke and no dogs were endangered, PETA suspected the America’s Got Talent host was kidding around.

“If bad taste were a crime, we’d be going to jail with Nick,” the animal rights’ organization said in a statement. “But joking about killing a dog, a kid, an old person — anyone — isn’t cool when there’s always the danger that some numbskull will do it for real.”

“Had it been true, Nick would have PETA to worry about,” the statement continued. “And that’s far worse than going to Rikers Island [prison].”

The eruption of shootings from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday left the mayor livid and the parents of three wounded children distraught and angry.

Police said the two dozen victims were shot in 14 separate incidents in Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. As of last night, no arrests had been made in any of the shootings.

“These people come with guns and shoot at anyone. They don’t care if there are children around,” said Charles Walters, 53, whose 11-year-old son, Shaquan, was the youngest of eight people wounded early yesterday at a backyard party in the Bronx by a lone gunman.

Shaquan was shot in the right leg and was recovering yesterday at Jacobi Medical Center. A 14-year-old girl was shot in the back and a 13-year-old girl was wounded in the left thigh in the 3:39 a.m. barrage.

Five young men – ages 17, 18, 19, 21 and 24 – were also wounded in the shooting on E. 221st St. in Williamsbridge and taken to local hospitals, cops said. They were expected to survive.

As police hunted for the suspect, who they identified as 17-year-old Oneil Dasilva of Mount Vernon, Bloomberg went ballistic yesterday, demanding stiffer federal gun laws.

The mayor said 24 people shot in 24 hours in the city “is just unconscionable.”

“We cannot tolerate it,” Bloomberg said while speaking at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn. “There are just too many guns on the streets and we have to do something about it.”

New York has the toughest gun laws in the country, but Bloomberg said the city alone cannot stop the onslaught of shootings. “We need the federal government to step up,” he said.

Bloomberg is a co-chair of Mayors Against Illegal Guns and has lobbied Washington repeatedly to beef up gun laws.

The mayor called on all federal politicians, regardless of party, to get on the same page .

“Both ends of Pennsylvania Ave., both sides of the aisle,” he said. “We cannot continue to have these guns in the hands of kids who don’t understand the value of life.”

Overall, gun violence in the city is down 5.9% from last year. As of Aug. 28, 1,123 people had been shot in New York this year, according to the NYPD.

According to the Baton Rouge Advocate, the 28-year-old tried to get the drugs into the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. The indictment stems from an arrest on May 25th by Louisiana State Police. The arresting officers claim that Boosie was working with two local men – Titus Franklin and Arthur Stewart – to get codeine into the prison. Both men were indicted alongside Boosie, who was indicted on “one count of criminal conspiracy to take contraband to and from a penal institution and another count of inciting a felony. The penalties could add an additional two to four years to Boosie’s sentence.

The indictment is another blow to Boosie, who is currently awaiting trial on his first-degree murder charge. The District Attorney’s Office is currently undecided on whether to seek the death penalty for Boosie in the case.
