Along with the Doc, Bad Boy Records CEO Diddy hosted Ricky Rozay’s celebration. Rick Ross cemented a weekend of jet-set partying for his 36th birthday in ultimate style Sunday night at his home base in Miami, surrounded by some of his closest friends and thousands of fans. Club Amnesia was packed wall to wall with almost no wiggle room, filled with hip-hop heavyweights and club revelers watching closely, competing to get a shot of the action.

Fans cheered, “Happy birthday, boss,” as an elated Ross made his way to Amnesia’s top-level VIP area, where dozens of music celebrities — including producer/singer Sean Garrett, actor Evan Ross and powerhouse producer Dr. Dre — were waiting in the wings for his arrival. Dre was easily the night’s most-talked-about guest, as the sight of him and Ross together confirmed their union after being spotted hanging out together in Miami recently.

Diddy does everything in excess. From his music videos to his children’s birthday parties, there’s always shiny gold, lavish cars, beautiful women and fine bubbly surrounding him. As news comes that he’s throwing a private affair following the 54th Annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 12, it’s no surprise that a pass to the event cost a whopping $50,000 a piece. In his world, that’s the price of a movie ticket.

The event, which will be held at the Playboy Mansion in L.A., is set to have a red carpet, celebrity honors, DJ awards, a live performance, cocktail reception, open bar and open buffet. While $50,000 is the highest ticket price, people with less cash flow can opt for the more affordable yet still hefty sum of $1,500. There’s also a $15,000 and $25,000 option.

TMZ reports that the $50,000 package doesn’t just get you in the swanky establishment, it also is loaded with extras. Those wishing to empty out their bank account to party with Diddy will get access to two cabanas, VIP admission for 20 people, a buffet dinner, open bar, free bottle service and 15 female promotional models to “service” you.

But the cash being shelled out won’t necessarily go straight to the Bad Boy Records mogul’s pockets. Proceeds will benefit the Angelwish Foundation, which helps children afflicted by HIV/AIDS.

Beyoncé is known as a performer, fashion designer, Jay-Z’s missus, and arguably the most famous new mom in the world. But should she also be considered a social change agent?

Kevin Allred, a doctoral student and lecturer in Rutgers’ Department of Women’s and Gender Studies, where he teaches “Politicizing Beyoncé,” thinks so – though, he says, the artist may not be “political” in the traditional sense of the word.

“This isn’t a course about Beyoncé’s political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama’s inauguration weekend,” he says. Rather, the performer’s music and career are used as lenses to explore American race, gender, and sexual politics. Allred pairs Beyoncé’s music videos and lyrics with readings from the Black feminist canon, including the writings of bell hooks, Alice Walker, and even abolitionist Sojourner Truth.

“Politicizing Beyoncé” emerged from Allred’s four semesters teaching Women’s Studies 101 at Rutgers, during which he and his students, both male and female, often discussed the thin line Beyoncé walks as a sex kitten-cum-girl power role model.

“She certainly pushes boundaries,” Allred says. “While other artists are simply releasing music, she’s creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona.”

Course topics include the extent of Beyoncé’s control over her own aesthetic, whether her often half-naked body is empowered or stereotypical, and her more racy performances as her alter ego, “Sasha Fierce.” In-class discussions often lead to other vocalists, including Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Lady Gaga, and contemporary musicians who embrace the soul singing tradition like Adele and the late Amy Winehouse.

The best pals wrapped up their joint U.S. tour earlier this month and headed to Dubai shortly before Christmas to perform a lucrative gig for the niece of billionaire Manchester City Football Club owner Sheikh Mansour, in celebration of her 16th birthday.
